Snow Buntings in Flight, Richmond, Ontario

A winter flock of snow buntings in flight over a harvested cornfield in Richmond, Ontario, just outside Ottawa.

They’d found the corn left behind after a late harvest. Winter flocks never settle for long: each bird leapfrogs the next, and the whole group moves across the field like blowing snow.

Unstaged, photographed by Ottawa wildlife photographer Tanya Heins.
