Great Blue Heron in Flight, Ottawa River

Great blue heron in flight at dawn on the Ottawa River opposite Clarence-Rockland. An unstaged, archival wildlife print by Ottawa photographer Tanya Heins.

First light hadn’t reached the forest floor yet, but it found the wing. Everything else stayed in shadow while the heron cut through the gap in the canopy. Handheld, tracking through the trees, exposed for the wing against the dark.

Unbaited and unstaged, photographed by Ottawa wildlife photographer Tanya Heins.

Print details: Glossy photo print on archival Fujiflex High Gloss paper with a 1 cm white border, hand-processed by WhiteWall in Germany. Ships unframed. Customs or import fees may apply.
